Dr. Ljilјana Matović, Full Research Professor / Principal Research Fellow. She obtained B.Sc. (2002), M.Sc. (2007), and Ph.D. (2010) degrees at the Faculty of Physical Chemistry, University of Belgrade. Her research interests are in the material science field primarily focused on the synthesis, characterization, and modification of materials, i.e. synthetic materials (carbon-based, metal hydrides) and natural materials (clay, zeolites, and their composites).
The main focus of her research activities is the field of materials applied in ecology, environmental protection, and the energy sector. In the field of environmental protection, she was engaged in the development of new materials for wastewater treatment and innovative technologies for permanent immobilization and conversion of waste materials. Moreover, in the 2002-2008 period, she was actively engaged in nuclear medicine activities regarding the production and development of radiopharmaceuticals. Dr. Matović has significant international research experience: a) from October 15, 2004, till March 15, 2005, she was a scholarship holder of “Ente per le nuove tecnologie e l’energia e ambiente (ENEA)”, Rome, Italy, through the realization of international project entitled “Microstructural characterization of MgH2 based materials”; b) she was a guest scientist in the 2019-2020 period at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, Tongji University, Shanghai, China, as a scholarship holder of the China Science and Technology Exchange Center. She is actively engaged in the education and professional development of young scientists as a mentor of two PhD dissertations and two M.Sc. thesis that were successfully defended in the 2011-2017 period. Also, she has extensive experience in organizational and management activities since she was Principal Investigator of several multilateral (COST actions: CA15202 (2018-2020), MP1206 (2014-2017), and MP1103 (2011-2015)), and two bilateral (Serbia-Slovakia (2015-2016), and Serbia-Slovenia (2012-2014)) project, and as a Head of the Department of Material Science at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, University of Belgrade in the 2016-2018 period. She is one of the founders of the startup Safe Matter doo Beograd.
The company Safe Matter received two grants: the first grant was granted by the Science and Technology Park Belgrade, within the “Raising Starts” program, which is implemented with the support of the Swiss Government. The second grant was granted by the Innovation Fund, Republic of Serbia, within the “Smart Start” program. She has published over 40 papers and has been cited more than 1,000 times.
